I am one of those sick and twisted people who occasionally posts on LinkedIn, I also happen to be one of those weirdos who likes using a browser that doesn’t actively spy on me. About a week ago I couldn’t type anything into LinkedIn without it selecting the footer every time I pressed the space bar.
I posted about it, from my phone, obviously.
I submitted a support ticket to LinkedIn, the person was very nice and professional, however, the advice boiled down to, you use Vivaldi, you should use a supported browser.
BUT I DON’T WANNA! and luckily, I don’t haveta!
A smart egg, Brandon Rohrer, spotted and shared a fix, and a good egg, Erik Murin, commented on my original thread.
Vivaldi has a setting to enable “Space Key to Fast Forward”. Which sounds like a great feature! Fortunately for me it wasn’t a feature that I ever used, as the “fix” is to turn that off. I say “fix” because I can’t fathom why the browser sending an extra event along with a space bar press would pose any issue to a sensible website, LinkedIn should fix this their end.
The how to disable Space key to fast forward
- Visit your Vivaldi settings page (vivaldi:settings)
- Go to the keyboard section (vivaldi:settings/keyboard/)
- Untick “Space Key to Fast Forward”
Refresh LinkedIn and things should start working again!
